The Madness
A WIP Song
Dear fellow vagabonds,
It’s been a while since I’ve posted a WIP song, but I have been playing and composing fairly consistently.
This post is about a short 1 minute song I wrote on Friday when my real job was affected by a global cyber security breach.
Here’s a rough demo of the song called The Madness:
Lyrics:
The Madness, consumes their brains.
Go hide in your home, and pray your saved.
They’ll send the light and heat your way.
Because…
…The Madness, is here to stay.
It had the usual steps of playing around with a loose idea, and recording on my mobile, such as this basic noodling:
And this almost but-not-quite-there foundation:
Then there was a meandering attempt at finding the melody:
I took an altogether more ridiculous approach to composing the solo:
Given my somewhat limited playing ability it took me a while to transcribe this to notes, and took me even longer to learn how to play the entire song without making mistakes.
The first recording I made was piecemeal, and close to the demo at the top, wherein I included the chains (inspired by a conversation with my pal Matt a few months ago), from the video up top, in the outro of the song.
Before I tidied up the full demo, I did manage to learn how to play the song in its entirety and added some outro vocals:
So there we go, another wee insight into the process.
This song has ended up being a pretty important one for the planned concept album myself and my collaborator David have been slowly working towards for the last few years. It’s likely going to mark the transition in the theme of the album from a pre and post reality in which the stories we’ll be singing are based. It also captures the tone of the production I’d very much like the album to reflect - on at least one of the potentially two records (more on that later).
For anyone still reading, here’s an early practice where I almost played the song the whole way without mistake, almost. Listen through to the very end to hear a cameo from my now wife (we married in April).
Thanks for your continued support and interest!
Fargo.
